At 78˚N in the Arctic Circle lies the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, a gigantic structure that houses Earth's largest single collection of seeds. Developed by Mr. Cary Fowler of the Global Crop Diversity Trust and constructed 390 feet into the core of a permafrost mountain, the vault is intended to stay secure for thousands of years. It's singular goal: to protect biodiversity for the future of agriculture in the face of today's unprecedented climate change and social strife.
